Stansbury's Fifth Annual Art Show

Stansbury's Fifth Annual Art Show Awards Ceremony took place last night, December 16th.  Awards were given through Student Choice and through professional judges for Best of Show.

Many of the students that received awards came from my Art Foundations, Watercolor, and Drawing classes. Zeb Cluff, took Best of Show for his landscape and Cameron Coe took First Place for Student Choice for his pencil drawing of a bearded-man.

This year's show had the most participants then any other year at Stansbury.  Students were encouraged to enter and represent their own voice through visual art.

STAINED GLASS WINDOWS

Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the world's best known architects, he is known from simple lines that resemble nature, proportion, and shape.  Foundations II students will explore architecture, through viewing some of Wright's work and then creating a similar stained glass window that echoes minimalism and craftsmen style.

The students will use the elements of art, such as, line, shape, proportion, unity, and color to create stained-glass on vinyl.  The vinyl allows the student to display their work in their car windows or in a home window.

IRON CHEFS of Stansbury

Local Chef, Viet Pham on Iron Chef America

Art is not just painting and drawing, it includes many different art forms. Fashion, product development, food preparation/presentation, architecture, etc. Students at Stansbury will understand the how the language of art is used to communicate design along with being able to visually present the Elements of Art.

Students also learn about local Chefs/Artist who create their art through food.  Local celebrity Chef, Viet Pham was featured in the class, as he has made great strides locally and nationally in the world of food.

Foundations II students will be creating plate presentations using the Elements of Art. Judges will help to determine which plate and menu best represents the elements. Students will present their plates and explain to the judges their food selections and how their plate is a work of art.

Plate presentations are a unique way to learn, understand, and remember the Elements of Art.

Practice! Practice!

It's important to draw everyday. Students in art, at Stansbury High, practice drawing whenever they enter the classroom.  This helps them explore problem-solving and recognize aesthetics. Drawing also gives them hands on experience, while having the teacher help guide them in making choices as to which direction to take their artistic abilities. Practice makes perfect.
